It's never been easier to be completely overwhelmed with information. Lots of companies address your personal information filter needs. In the early days your my.pickyourISP.com did this for you from a portal perspective. Then of course Yahoo! did it, Google, Netvibes and others. Then of course you have RSS readers and so forth. I've been using a combination of iGoogle and RSS feeds (things I consider PUSH based because the content is generated for me) to the various blogs I track, but I found out about another option recently.
Alltop is a site that lets you sort all the top stories in various categories so that you have a topical page to browse headlines and dig into what suits you. While I find I'm accessing more information on a daily basis (read: I'm more informed now), I'm also realizing that even the most niche topic of interest can take forever to browse through completely. So while I'm trying to use Alltop, I feel like I'm failing because I can't get to all of the content on any given day. I guess I need the Alltop of the Alltop. Will keep trying here and maybe I'll find the right balance of time/content/info/gratification. In any case, I smell a huge opportunity for companies focused on next generation approaches to personal productivity and automation.
